SavingStar - New eCoupon Site

There's a new ecoupon site in town!  SavingStar has posted over $50 in savings by using ecoupons linked to your store loyalty card.  Ecoupons (aka digital coupons) are already available through Coinstar, Softcoin, Cellfire, Shortcuts and P&G esaver.  The big difference with SavingStar is that you can now save coupons not only to your Smith's card, but you can also save coupons to your CVS and Albertsons cards.  SavingStar coupons cannot be saved to your Vons card.  While the coupons are added to all cards, they clearly state 'One Time Use Only.'  So I believe they will only be redeemed once when you purchase the product at a registered store.

SavingStar works a little bit differently from the other ecoupon sites.  When you've register your loyalty card numbers at SavingStar, all coupons you select are linked to ALL cards.  You make your purchases as usual, your total will NOT reflect the SavingStar ecoupon savings.  These SavingStar coupon savings accumulate in your SavingStar account until you've reached $5 in savings.  When you've reach $5, you choose your payout option:  bank account, paypal, amazon.com, or american forests.

But here's the great part.  In the FAQ, SavingStar says:

Can I combine SavingStar eCoupons with other paper or digital coupons?

For now, the answer is yes.

Yes, yes, yes!  Yippee!

Smiths - $1.99 Downy

I went to Smith's this morning to test the eCoupon + manufacuturer coupon issue.  This is what the breakdown is on the Downy transaction:

Ultra Downy 60 loads, $4.99

$2/1 Downy, softcoin.com eCoupon

$1/1 Downy, P&G Year of Savings Coupon Booklet

Final Price:  $1.99

We all know that you CANNOT use more than one manufacturer coupon on one item.  We are allowed to use a store coupon AND a manufacturers coupon on a single item.  The coupons we load unto our customer loyalty cards (like the eCoupons loaded on your Smith's card at the Smith's website, or Cellfire, etc.) are not identified as 'store coupons' or 'manufacturer coupons'.  So how are we to know?

The eCoupons are automatically deducted without your asking for the coupon to be applied.  What if you have a 'regular' coupon with a higher value for that product that you would rather use?  If the eCoupon is applied to the product, will your store (computer register or cashier) accept your paper coupon?  The answer is, Maybe.

My Smiths obviously accepted both coupons.  Your store may or may not.  Once the coupons are loaded, no one can determine if that coupon is a manufacturers coupon or not.  At this time, Smith's is leaving the decision to their store managers, but most stores ARE ACCEPTING both coupons.  Just thought you might want to know!

New Cellfire eCoupons Available

Not familiar with Cellfire? These are money-saving ecoupons that you can load to your Smith's and Vons store loyalty cards (full list of participating stores below).  When you purchase the coupon item, the coupon amount is automatically deducted from your total - no need to produce a coupon!  Although there is some dispute from store manager to store manager about what I'm about to say, I have been able to use a 'regular' paper coupon in conjuction with the cellfire ecoupons on the same product without any problem from cashiers or store managers!

Load yours now so they're available for your next grocery shopping trip.
