Look what I found in the Grocery Smarts Group A coupons - a link to the Walgreens IVC (Instant Value Coupons)!  Just look for this coupon (I found mine on page 16) and click to get to the site.  You can print the coupons from home to get ready for your transactions before you get to the store.  These coupons are Wagreens store coupons and can be combined with manufacturers coupons for greaer savings.

Stock Up, Save, Simplify.

Thinking before acting is good advice.  What does that have to do with couponing?  First let me say I wasn't impressed with this week's Albertson's and Smiths ads.  So this week I'm holding on to my grocery money and coupons and waiting for a better bargain.

Be a smart consumer while you stock-up, save and simplify:

• Stock-up.  Know the stock-up prices on the items you buy regularly.  For instance, I try to never pay more than $1 for a box of cereal and I haven't paid one cent for toothpaste or deodorant in a very long time!  Stores will do everything they can to make their products and prices look appealing to you.  That's what advertising is about.  Work to become knowledgeable about the lowest price you should pay for your regular purchases.
• Save.  Have patience!  Wait for the price you want!  Once you've accumulated your stockpile this becomes so much easier.  Until then, don't give in to the urge to buy when the prices aren't where you want them to be.  Remember you're the one to decide when you spend your money. 
• Simplify.  Use Grocery Smarts lists to save both time and money.  The convenience of having a free website that matches your coupons with weekly sales is a huge time and money-saver.  We all want to save money.  That's why we coupon.  Grocery Smarts helps you save time as well (which is just as valuable)!

It's really okay to skip a week in your couponing adventures when the sales don't meet with expectations.  Waiting can be a good thing.  Patience, after all, is a virtue.

TLCs Extreme Couponing

Were you able to catch TLC's Extreme Couponing?  Entertainment Weekly has just announced that the Extreme Couponing special will become a 12-week series.  I've read a variety of opinions about the show.  Some thought it bordered on hoarding while others were inspired to begin/continue couponing to save money in already tight budgets.

While I can see both sides of these comments,

(When husbands and families are 'dissed' while wife/mother runs after coupon deals, the title 'extreme' is accurate.  On the other hand, buying 1100 boxes of cereal and donating them to a food bank is admirable.  When couponers are able to get items for free or close to free, and choose to donate those items to those in need as opposed to cramming their homes with items they could not possibly use in YEARS and YEARS - I am impressed!)

shining a light on the value of couponing can only mean good things for many who find themselves trying to stretch their dollar to cover everyday expenses.  When manufacturers get more of our money by downsizing their products but keeping the same prices, we need every advantage we can get.

It's possible we might learn something from these 'extreme' couponers.  I know I plan to watch!  What are your thoughts?

I was able to buy 5 boxes last week at Walgreens with my 5 coupons from my 5 newspapers.  After coupons, sales tax and register rewards, I paid $0.02 per box!  That's ten cents for 5 boxes - so it was ALMOST free.  This upcoming sale at CVS is too good to pass up:

But I've used all my coupons (maybe you're in the same boat), so . . . this is one of those situations where it's the perfect time to BUY extra coupons.  I found the coupons at My Coupon Hunter and was able to buy 14 Finish coupons from the 1/2 Smart Source #1 for $1.40 ($1.85 including shipping).  Because I'm purchasing early, the coupons will arrive in plenty of time to catch the sale.  I'll be able to use my CVS card and my husband's to work this deal twice!  I'll make $4.55 on the deal after subtracting my coupon expense ($1.85) and sales tax ($3.40) from the deals!
