You may have noticed some of your printable coupons have a new look. This is the beginning of the transition between the old coupon bar codes and the new coupon DataBar.
The new DataBar Coupons are capable of encoding much more information. Some of the additional information included will be expiration dates, product specifics such as size, weight and quantity required. By including this information it will reduce the misuse of coupons.
So, what does this mean for you? You shouldn't notice any differences in checking out when using these coupons. Stores have been gearing up for the new DataBar coupons and most major retailers already have the software in place. So if the barcode doesn't scan, it's most likely because the registers haven't been updated. BUT . . . the coupon can still be entered manually and used at checkout!
